Getting Around in Vienna
Vienna's trams
More Vienna Photos
Getting There
By air:
Vienna's airport is 19km from the city centre. It is connected to the city centre via train (S7
train) while a bus service also runs from outside the arrivals terminal. Another option is to fly to Bratislava which is 70 minutes away by coach.
By train:
Vienna has two main train stations: Westbahnhof where trains from Western and Northern Europe arrive and Sudbahnhof where trains from Eastern Europe end up.
By bus:
The city's main bus station is called Wien Mitte which is also known as Land Strasse. It is in
the city centre.
Getting Around
On foot:
Vienna is quite large and divided into 23 districts. Getting around the city centre ('Inner
Stadt') on foot is easy.
By U-bahn (underground):
The metro system (U-Bahn) is clean and very quick and trams and buses are punctual. The U-Bahn is the fastest way of getting around the city and trains run from between 5 and 6am to between midnight and 1am (the times of first and last trains are posted up at individual stations.
By tram:
The Austrian capital has one of the largest tram systems in the world, with more than thirty routes. Trams are also quite fast and efficient, and run every five to ten minutes, depending on the time of day. Check the timetables posted at every stop for full details.
By bus:
Buses are handy for getting to backstreets where there are few U-Bahn stations and tram routes. Despite having to deal with traffic they are surprisingly punctual and run from Mon to Sat.
By taxi:
Vienna's taxis are numerous and quite reliable.
